Sponsoring the Rock ‘n’ Roll 10k

Every time I run a race, the three things I want immediately after finishing are a bottle of water, food, and a massage. So when Stack Fitness sponsored the Rock ‘n’ Roll 10k, we brought custom water bottles, chocolate chip nutrition bars, and a massage therapist. Look at all these goodies. Makes you kinda jealous, huh?

Of course, no major event we do these days is complete without Bubbles: the Dancing Mascot.

The nutrition bars and water bottles weren’t just a huge hit; they were gone less than half an hour after the first person finished (which, by the way, also took less than half an hour). Lesson #1: bring more food next time.

Lesson #2: Hire two massage therapists. Nobody can turn down a free massage, and the therapist we hired didn’t stop working for three hours! She did a great job, and everybody was really grateful.

The whole event was a great experience, and it was awesome to meet so many runners and tell them about Stack Exchange Fitness & Nutrition. Right after you finish a race is when you need a place to ask about recovery techniques and ways to improve your running form and increase your 10k speed for next time. So when we told the runners that they could do that on Fitness & Nutrition, most people were really excited about it.

Check out this photo album to see how excited everyone really was. I can’t say for sure, but part of that may have been due to the appearance of Bubbles… Either way, below are some of our favorite moments from the 10K.

Psst: If you were lucky enough to get your picture taken with Bubbles, you can download your hi-res picture here!

First of all, it’s always good to get out and interact face to face with potential users. There is only so much you can do online, and it’s much easier to explain a site as complicated as Stack Exchange in person. [...]
